Zero Waste in Action: Markham Walks the Talk
The Town of Markham has achieved a diversion rate of 70% in a few short years by showing leadership within the Town's administrative offices. By removing easy access to garbage cans and replacing them with recycling and composting stations throughout the building, municipal staff have drastically reduced the amount of residual garbage. Further improvements were achieved by reviewing and altering contracts with custodial and food services, and purchasing policies.
(Ward 2 councillor Erin Shapero was ill and unable to attend the information night)
